Aldi Medion 4.5%22 smartphone banner

In their latest catalogue special starting this Saturday 24th January, Aldi will be selling the Medion Life 4.5″ P4502 (MD 98942) Android mobile device for $149.

The Medion phone certainly has a different design aesthetic than some of the previous handsets released by Aldi under other monikers such as Bauhn, and looking at the specs, it looks pretty reasonable inside as well as out.

The full list of specs include:

  • 4.5″ qHD IPS Display (960 x 540)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 1.3 GHz quad-core processor
  • 8 GB internal memory (approx. 3 GB free), expandable to 32 GB via MicroSD card
  • 5 MP rear camera, 2 MP front facing
  • WLAN 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, FM radio
  • Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)
  • 1,700 mAh li-ion battery

The only disappointing (but probably not surprising) fact about the Medion Life 4.5″ P4502 (MD 98942) smartphone is that it does come with Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) instead of the current Android 5.0 Lollipop. It’s not known if an update will be made available, but it seems unlikely, so this might be worth considering if purchasing. However the device is unlocked and as far as we can gather only comes with 3G wireless connectivity instead of LTE.

The combination of a 4.5″ screen, 3G only connectivity and a less-powerful processor may mean, though, that this is a phone which will have fairly decent battery life, despite the rating of 1,700 mAh for the battery.

As like any other previous smartphones Aldi have sold, it is presumed that the Medion Life 4.5″ P4502 (MD 98942) will sell out like hot cakes, so you might want to head down to your local Aldi store to ensure you get your hands on the phone before they sell out.

does anyone know where I can get a replacement battery?

Hi Liz, unfortunately the drawback to buying lower end devices like these is a lack of accessory support. You can attempt to contact Medion Australia to see if they can help. You can check their contact page here https://www.medion.com/au/service/contact/

I bought one. It had 5gb free space. My main concern is slooooow battery recharge rate and fas battery use. Recharge takes about 6hrs

most of the bloatware can be uninstalled like lots of the useless camera apps and such. the google derived apps however are not

It won’t sell like hot cakes for informed buyers and those that hate bloatware.
