LG - Midrange
Ahead of what’s sure to be a busy week next week, LG has announced four new handsets aimed at the mid-range and will show the handsets off at Mobile World Congress (MWC).

MWC has always been about the mid-range with LG, with their higher-end handsets getting launches mid-year. Today there’s four LTE compatible handsets announced, which lines up with their ‘F’ series, although they will also have 3G radios. The phones announced today are called the LG Magna, LG Spirit, LG Leon and LG Joy.

The LG Spirit and the LG Magna are the top end of the four handsets, with 4.7″ and 5.0″ HD displays, they also come with Android 5.0 Lollipop and LG’s custom software features. The LG Leon and the LG Joy are the entry level handsets coming with 4.5″ and 4.0″ FWVGA and WVGA screens and KitKat.

  • Network: LTE Cat.4, HSPA + 21Mbps
  • Memory: 8GB / 1GB
  • Operating System: Android 5.0 lollipop
  • Battery: 2,100 mAh
  • Size: 133.3 x 66.1 x 9.9 mm

LG Leon Specifications:

  • Display: 4.5 “FWVGA (220 ppi)
  • Camera: 8 (5) MP / VGA
  • Processor: 1.2GHz Dual
  • Network: LTE Cat.4, HSPA + 21Mbps
  • Memory: 4GB / 512MB
  • Operating System: Android 4.4 Kit Kat
  • Battery: 1,900 mAh
  • Size: 122.7 x 64.0 x 11.9 mm

LG Joy Specifications:

  • Display: 4.0 “WVGA (233ppi)
  • Camera: 5MP / VGA
  • Processor: 1.2GHz Dual
  • Network: LTE Cat.4, HSPA + 21Mbps
  • Memory: 4GB / 512MB
  • Operating System: Android 4.4 Kit Kat
  • Battery: 1,900 mAh
  • Size: 122.7 x 64.0 x 11.9 mm

Pricing hasn’t been announced but LG will begin rolling the handsets out in Brazil first, before moving on to Europe. Global availability hasn’t been announced as yet, but we’ll be speaking with LG Australia about potential releases for any of the four handsets on our shores later this year. We’ll also be checking these handsets out at the LG booth at MWC next week.

The title should be ‘2 mid range and 2 low end phones’ after looking at those specs?

None of the phones have enough RAM, on board storage, or powerful enough CPU to warrant being called ‘mid range’

I personally think 1GB of ram is sufficient, although I think 1.5GB is the sweet spot. 2GB is overkill and would jack up the price of a mid range phone.
