Well, the question of what’s in the Motorola Box has been answered, with Motorola today announcing the all new Moto E with 4G LTE. There’s a few other hardware additions and updates, and there’s also still a 3G-only model.
The new Moto E comes with a slightly larger 4.5″ display, 0.2 of an inch larger than the first model, though with the same qHD resolution. Motorola has also seen fit to include a front-facing camera this time around, though at VGA resolution those selfies won’t be that great.

Software wise there’s been some improvements too, with some of the higher end functions introduced on the higher end Moto X coming down to the Moto E. The awesome Moto Display which delivers notifications and updates without updating you is now present, and the Moto Migrate option to move all your contacts, photos and videos to your new phones is also now compatible with the Moto E

The Moto E will be available in Australia and New Zealand in the coming months, with pricing and availability to be confirmed closer to the availability date.

The 4G version is upgrading to Snapdragon 410. That’s 64-bit Cortex A53, should be a hell of a speed boost especially with Lollipop that can make use of ARMv8.
Those LTE bands don’t seem right for Australia though, we need something with band 3 and 28, and hopefully 5, 7 and 40 thrown in as well so it can be used across the country.
The Snapdragon 410 also supports Quick Charge 2.0, the Motorola Turbo Charger from the Nexus 6 should make short work of charging the E2. If Motorola enables this.

Telstra, has band 7 but is not their primary band
Optus, as for telstra
Vodafone has band 5 but is also not their primary band.
So unless there is an international variant the Moto E LTE is useless in Australia on mass.

I’m still waiting for Lollipop to reach the Moto G 4G. Perhaps Motorola should focus on supporting its existing models before launching new ones.
More powerful SoC than the current Moto G. Interesting. Maybe the 2015 Moto G will use the same silicon to save money by buying in bulk? But hopefully the updated G will have even better specs.
