Vodafone has quietly added a new budget 4G device to its prepaid service with the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 4G for $249.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 4G is a pretty descent offering for a lower spec prepaid smartphone.

The full list of specs include:

  • 4.5″ WVGA TFT display (800 x 480)
  • 1.2GHz Quad Core Qualcomm
  • Snapdragon 410 processor
  • Adreno 306
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage, expandable to 64GB via MicroSD
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP front facing
  • Android 4.4.4 (KitKat)
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS
  • Network Radios:
    • 4G: 850/900/1800/2100/2600 LTE Cat 4
    • 3G: 850/900/2100
    • 2G: 850/900//1800/1900

The main selling point here is the availability of access to Vodafone’s 4G network, which has consistently been one of the best tested networks around. With Optus & Telstra now rolling out their 700 MHz 4GX products, it will remain to seen if Vodafone will be able to keep ahead of the pace.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 4G is available to buy for $249 from the Vodafone prepaid website or simply head into your nearest Vodafone store.

It’s great to Vodafone selling cheap handsets that support all of their network bands. It’s concerning that they have been selling so many 3G 850/2100MHz only phones, which will be limited to 2100MHz once Vodafone switches the remaining 5MHz of 850MHz over to 4G.
