Mobile World Congress is underway, and Huawei was the first to announce its new goodies today. Curiously though, the new MediaPad table – the MediaPad X2 – wasn’t anywhere to be seen in their press conference.
The MediaPad X2 isn’t just a tablet, its also a phone (of course), and it’s the world’s first (wait for it) ultra-octa 64 bit LTE Cat6 4G Phablet. It takes its design cues from the Ascend Mate 7, which was released in Australia late last year.
The MediaPad X2 sports a 7-inch ultra 1200 x 1920 HD IPS display tablet inside an all-metal body. Huawei is claiming a position at the super-thin tablets table, with the X2 coming in at 7.28 mm thick. The X2 will also have a 2.0GHz Kirin 930 ultra-octa chipset which will be needed to support the LTE Cat6 connectivity. On the right network, users should see download speeds up to 300Mbps.
There is also a 5,000 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which the company is saying is the ‘largest allowed in the industry’ and a 13MP rear camera rear camera which Huawei says will give the user exceptional low-light shooting capabilities. There will be a 5MP front-facing camera that has an aperture of F2.4 and a wide angle of 22mm w – good for panoramic selfies.
Want one? Be sure to get the right one. The MediaPad X2 will come in 2 versions – one will be ‘standard’ version of 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space in a moonlight silver body while the other will be a ‘premium’ version with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage in an amber gold body. Both are said to be feature dual-sim capabilities and both will offer 4G network support regardless.
