Volkswagen Australia has today announced their new MY16 range of vehicles will arrive with updates to the Polo, Golf, Beetle, Scirocco, Jetta and Tiguan ranges that include Android Auto.
Arriving at dealerships in the coming weeks, the new range of vehicles will include a range of updates to the entertainment and audio visual systems, including a rear-view camera on all models in the range, as well as the inclusion of App-Connect USB interface which serves as a link to Apple CarPlay, Mirrorlink and of course Android Auto.
The inclusion of the App-Connect USB interface means that Volkswagen drivers will be able to connect their smartphone and enjoy the benefits of either system on the upgraded 6.5@ Composition Media high resolution touch screen display on key models.

Volkswagen is the second member of the Open Automotive Alliance to deliver a vehicle with Android Auto factory fitted, after Hyundai began using Android Auto on their 2015 Sonata in the US. Volkswagen is the first to include it on their entire range of vehicles.
The Volkswagen MY16 model range will begin to arrive in Volkswagen dealerships across the country in the coming weeks, with models available to order immediately. We’ll be definitely heading into a dealer to check out what the new vehicles have to offer.
Wonder if the Android Auto headunits can be installed on older models. I have a 2012 Model Polo and would love to get rid of the current setup.
Worth a call to the dealer. Interesting idea. Otherwise, the Pioneer head units will work.
The UK civic hatch has an android head unit but it is locked down.
Can’t install apps from the play store, can’t enable developer mode, can’t fast boot it.
Hopefully, this VW one is not the same.
Crud. Was thinking of getting a 2013 Golf but if Android Auto is coming might have to see about stretching the budget a bit.
Carsales has 2013 Golf cars from 17k to 56k, New they are around 22k to 66k.
I guess it all depends on the model you want… but a base model 2016 Gold shouldn’t be that much more than 22k?
Yeah, I’ve been keeping an eye on car sales for a while. For a difference of a couple $1000 I’m leaning towards getting a new one, but only the comfort line has parking sensors which does up the cost a bit.
Do you really need parking sensors? If you live in a city then I guess it could help but I don’t have them and never thought of getting them. I’d say around 30k you should be able to get a good one? I am looking at them too but in Diesel 2.0L 🙂
Don’t need them but if I’m upgrading the car then I’d like them. Was hoping for <25k, but we'll see what they can do.
