Sony 2
Europe’s consumer electronics show kicks off next week with IFA in Berlin and with Samsung’s event out of the way, the other traditional launch at the show is from another of the big vendors: Sony, who has begun teasing their announcement on Twitter last night.

The tweet features a smartphone ironically out of focus capturing the Brandenburg Gate, a well known architectural wonder in Berlin, the location of IFA. The current state of rumours for Sony’s launch event include a Sony Xperia Z5 as well as a mini version in an Xperia Z5 Compact as well as the possibility of a phablet sized Xperia Z5 Ultra in the mix. Whatever they launch, the camera seems to be a key feature – as it has been for most of the phone launches we’ve seen this year:

The Sony press event kicks off in the afternoon on the 2nd of September local time in Berlin where Ausdroid will be live on the ground to bring you all the news as it happens.

I encouraged my wife to get the z3 based on the positive reviews. In many ways it is a great device, but the overheating problems when using the camera are incredibly frustrating. It seems that these problems have existed for a few generations of Sony phones and I would be very wary of getting one again.

I can’t wait to be let down again…?

Please Sony, bring optical stabilisation to your phones. A faster shutter response would be nice too!

Dont forget full manual controls and at least f1.8 aperture.

The wife’s Z1 is getting a bit long long in the tooth, maybe the Z5 is the droid she is looking for.

Cryptic hints aren’t what they used to be.
