HTC’s One M9 was a bit of a disappointment last year. The phone itself actually performed quite well, but was let down by the problematic Snapdragon 810 processor and the camera in a year where cameras on Android phones really came of age. The HTC One M10, codenamed ‘Perfume’, however sounds like it could answer all these criticisms and more.
Writing over at his new virtual home, Venture Beat, leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has given a run down on the upcoming HTC One M10 based on information from someone who has used a prototype of the phone.
According to the source, the One M10 will feature a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage with a microSD card slot as well. The phone will have a QuadHD (2560×1440) resolution 5.1″ display, which could possibly be AMOLED, a new move for HTC who has used SuperLCD screens for their flagships previously.
The phone will also come with better camera hardware, with HTC choosing to use a 12-UltraPixel sensor on the rear that may offer a good balance between the low-light performance of their previous UltraPixel sensor and the full-size 20MP sensor used on the One M9. HTC will apparently also offer Optical Image Stabilisation and laser auto-focus on the One M10 as well, which should allow for outstanding low-light performance.
Design wise, the device viewed was a prototype so final design wasn’t set in stone, but HTC will be using a fingerprint sensor on the One M10, though it will be mounted on the front of the phone beneath the screen similarly to the HTC One M9+.
HTC will launch the phone with Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), though it will come with HTC’s Sense 8.0 UI – though what changes will be introduced in this new flagship isn’t mentioned.
According to Evan, the phone will not be launched at MWC next month, with HTC choosing to launch the phone at a stand alone event at a later date. We’ll know more when HTC start talking about their plans for MWC and of course if they mention any additional dates for events.
Hmm…Evleaks is usually pretty accurate with his leaks, but as another commenter has pointed out he was way off the money last year with the M9 leaks. Also, pretty much every other tech site reporting on these leaks is reporting very different information. Most sites are stating the device will have 3GB, a MediaTek processor, another 20ish megapixel camera and a design very similar to that of the One A9. I stopped using HTC when they announced the ultrapixel cameras, but got the M9 once released. M10 could be good with 12MP ultrapixel and optical stabilisation.
My only gripes with M9 is it gets hot sometimes, physical buttons too sensitive and battery life could be better
Evleaks got the M9 leak completely wrong last year, not trusting him for the M10 this year.
I’ll wait for more reliable leaksters (such as OnLeaks) to post something about it.
Judging by the leaks, seems like a lot of OEMs are going for “ultrapixel”, Samsung’s latest leak was also 12mp but with 1.7um.

Regardless of the number in front of it, the camera is still an UltraPixel camera. The UltraPixel was supposed to make the camera really stand out in low light conditions. However, when I take a low light photo with my M7, it leaves a purple tinge to the photo making it totally useless. If HTC want to survive, they have to realise that in this day and age, the camera is one of deal breaking points when considering which phone to buy. Mmm no mention of boom sound… If everything holds up to the rumor on this article with a all new design (lets hope) plus with the addition of boom sound.. Where in for a hopeful killer of a device!
