Samsung
At just over a week out, Mobile World Congress is fast approaching and that means we’ll soon be getting the official unveiling of Samsung’s latest high-end phone series the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Evan Blass is, as usual, all over the launch offering up an early look at the devices and today has shown off the Galaxy S7 in Black and Gold and the Galaxy S7 Edge in Gold and Silver colour options.

The Galaxy S7 looks lovely in these renders, with a small bezel and a nice curved top to the phone. Samsung generally hits a number of colour options, including that beautiful light metallic blue last year, but so far we see only Gold and Black. Still, they look very, very nice.

While there’s nothing to say we won’t see these phone in the decidedly sexy looking almost British racing green that they launched last year, the renders for the S7 Edge that Evan has shared today on Twitter show just the Gold, Black and Silver options. The phones, as expected for an ‘Edge’ model show a nice curved top and rear, which should fit comfortably in the hand.

While the Edge may look comfortable to hold, it remains to be seen if Samsung has added enough into the software to take advantage of the Edge display. Recent improvements have added functionality which improved it, but a large leap forward is really what’s required for the technology to take off.

Our fingers are crossed that Samsung will maybe bring back the microSD card expansion they removed from the S6 to both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens in Barcelona in a week.

Might be just me, but I never found the S6 to be laggy. Gave it to the parents after going to iPhone, but I had no problems with it

Gawd that looks dull.

Well, it’s far from ugly, but still. Perhaps I’m just too dark on Samsung after my now sold S6 being such a laggy hunk of crap. (Stoked I was able to find a buyer.)

Jamie S

My s6 was laggy too until I got the 5.1.1 update. It wasn’t too bad after that but the battery life was trash even with app battery optimisation.

Chris

Have to say, I quite liked the Galaxy S6 (and Note 5 which is basically the same but bigger), but the same of battery life that has plagued Samsung for a few years now has continued. If they haven’t fixed it this year, I’ll stop paying attention.
