Even with BlackBerry announcing their intention to stop making devices, they still have devices in the market and though they haven’t officially launched the DTEK50 in Australia yet, another importer, Buy Mobile Australia, have the BlackBerry DTEK50 available to purchase outright for $419.95 + delivery.

The DTEK50 is BlackBerry’s second Android powered device and whilst it does look somewhat like an Alcatel Idol 4s – due to Alcatel’s parent company, TCL, being behind the design for the DTEK50 on behalf Blackberry – to me, I like it, well, except for the name!

In case you have forgotten what the DTEK50 specs are, here’s a little list to refresh your memory:

  • 5.2″ Display (1080 x 1920)
  • Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617
  • Octa-core 4×1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.2 GHz Cortex-A53
  • Adreno 405
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB storage, expandable to 2TB via microSD
  • 13MP rear camera, 8MP front facing
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, A-GPS
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
    • 3G: 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz
    • 4G: LTE bands 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)
  • Battery: Non-removable Li-Ion 2610 mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 147 x 72.5 x 7.4 mm @ 135g

The phone supports pretty much all the 3G and 4G LTE bands you could want here in Australia. The downside with the DTEK50 is that it’s not clear if the phone will receive an update to Android 7.0 (Nougat) but more than likely will given BlackBerry said they will endeavour to try and continue updates where possible.

You can head over to the Buy Mobile Australia website to purchase the DTEK50 for $419.95 + Postage costs. There is also options for interest free repayments which are between 12 to 24 Months, although credit checking is a requirement for this option.
