The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) has today announced that it has partnered with a new smartphone manufacturer, OPPO, to join the mobile telecommunications industry’s official recycling program, MobileMuster, which provides a free take back program for old mobiles and accessories, keeping them out of landfill.
OPPO joins other long term partners in mobile handset manufacturing industry such as Microsoft, Motorola, Samsung, HTC, Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel and network operators Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile who work in collaboration to provide a free national recycling program to their customers.

Since its inception and creation back in late 1998, MobileMuster, has diverted more than 1,244 tonnes of mobiles and accessories from landfill for recycling, including more than an estimated 10 million handsets and batteries. Adding to this, over 95% of the materials used in a mobile are recyclable and can be reused to make new products, avoiding future greenhouse gas emissions, saving energy, protecting our environment and conserving scarce natural resources.
There are a number of ways to send your old phone through to MobileMuster, which including dropping your old phone and charger to either an Optus, Telstra, Vodafone or Virgin Mobile stores in the MobileMuster bins provided there, or when you get a new device, most of the manufacturers listed above earlier in the post, including OPPO, include a MobileMuster postage bag which you just pop your old phone and charger into and send it to a Post Office for collection by MobileMuster.
