As a lead-in to the launch of the Galaxy Tab S3 and their newly upated Gear VR headset, Samsung also confirmed the launch date and place for the new Galaxy S8 (and by extension the Galaxy S8 Plus).

The event has been rumoured for March 29th in New York and Samsung have today confirmed this with an event invite and press release. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be unveiled at 11:00 a.m. EDT in New York on Wednesday March 29, 2017 – that’s 2:00am AEDST on Thursday, 30 March 2017 for those at home, and you’ll be able to tune in live on the Samsung Mobile YouTube channel or samsung.com/galaxy.

While they’re not ready to unveil it yet, they were willing to share a bit of hype for the phone in this video – don’t worry, there’s nothing close to a spoiler in here:

As far as rumoured specs go, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be similar in spec, though with sizable differences in screen size with a 5.7″ display rumoured for the S8, while the S8 Plus will go to a 6.2″ display – both will apparently pack a QHD+ resolution screen. The Galaxy S8 Plus recently got a thorough outing of its specifications thanks to leaker Evan Blass who shared this tweet:
