While the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge languishes on Marshmallow here in Australia with no official word updates, users in Germany and Switzerland are reporting that their Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge’s are receiving an update to Android 7.0.

Samsung is not far away from announcing their 2017 flagship, the Galaxy S8. Not forgetting about their flagships of previous years we have already seen the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge (2016’s flagship) updated to Google’s latest Android version, Nougat. Today Samsung have begun rolling out the update to their 2015 flagship, the S6 and S6 Edge, in parts of Europe.

The update to Nougat for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is a decent size, as so many of Samsung’s ROMs are, coming in at around 1.35GB. According to the source, Giga.de, the update brings a slightly improved user interface, notification improvements and more efficient disk use.

Having already used the Galaxy S6 Edge+ Nougat update on the Ausdroid Galaxy S6 Edge I can say that there is a definitely “improvement” to the TouchWiz interface.

The update was halted for both the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge in the UK late last month, with their social media team citing a need to ‘review its quality’. While Samsung UK went on to say they would be starting the rollout as soon as they could, there’s been no follow up so far to advise it has recommenced in the UK.

For their part, Samsung Australia has directed Australian customers wanting the Nougat update for the S6 to their carrier. We inquired with Samsung Australia regarding an update to Nougat for the Australian versions of these phones but are yet to hear anything back. It is also yet to show up on any of the Australian carriers’ public testing lists so if/when it ever arrives here is anybody’s guess.

For those who do not want to wait for Samsung/the carriers to push out an update stay tuned to Ausdroid in the next few days for my step by step run through of how to update your Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to Android 7.0.

If you do see an official update coming for your Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge reach out to us and let us know.

The nougat update has ruined my phone.
Lost predictive text and many other features.
Google has created a horror for me.

I got the update on my S6 last night through Telstra.
I now have no status bar; the Recent Apps button doesnt work; the volume buttons no longer trigger anything on the display; my battery is draining at approx 1% per minute and there is a significant lag after pressing the home button.
Not impressed.

Any ideas on why Aus only got 7.0 and not 7.1?
