HTC has just started teasing the launch of their next HTC U phone, with a series of tweets and posts with the tag line ‘Squeeze for the Brilliant U’.

The teaser shows a phone being held and squeezed, which is in line with the multiple leaks we’ve seen for the HTC phone codenamed ‘Ocean’. You can see the teaser here, which gives timing for the launch as 4pm AEST May 16th, with satellite events in Taipei at 2pm, New York at 2am and in London at 7am.

Leading leaks for the HTC Ocean have come from a number of sources including the inimitable Mr Evan Blass who has tipped specs for the phone which include a 5.5″ QHD resolution display, Snapdragon 835 processor, options for 4GB or 6GB of RAM depending on market, as well as either 64GB or 128GB of storage. A 12MP Sony Exmor IMX362 sensor will be used on the rear while a more selfie friendly 16MP IMX351 sensor will adorn the front – all of this will be powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Feature wise the phone will come with a touch sensitive frame, allowing users to assign a function to either a long or short squeeze including launching an app, or performing a function. The Squeeze function was outlined in a previous leak which showed setup arrangements:

We’ll know more about the HTC U when it launches in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more.
