If you’re into sport, or fitness then a good pair of earphones are a must have and Sony has announced the Wearable Walkman WS623 for the Australian market, which will arrive in June for $199.

These aren’t just any earphones, they’re light and have an ergonomic design that are designed to stay in place no matter what movement you make. They’re also equipped with NFC for easy Bluetooth one-touch pairing and come with 4GB of on-board storage so you can take your music with you even without a paired device.

The big news for sportos is that these things are EXTREME! In that they’re also waterproof and dustproof with an IP65/IP68 rating, giving you up to 30 minutes of swimming time in up to 2m of water – including salt water, yes, salt water, for up to 30 minutes. That means you can take these things to the beach for a run or a swim with no need to worry about sand or salt water getting in – so yes, you can use these in a pool with no worries for the same time. Not extreme enough? They can also take temperatures from as low as -5°C up to 45°C with no worries.

Even with the slim design, Sony says these earphones can deliver sound for up to 12 hours, that’s pretty impressive in a world where 8 hours on bluetooth earphones is the norm. This battery can also take a quick charge with 3 minutes of charge giving you 60 minutes of audio.

The Sony Wearable Walkman also has in-built microphones that give you an ambient sound mode to let you still hear what’s going on around you.

The Sony Wearable Walkman WS623 will be available in June for $199 from the usual suspects including Sony Online. We’re definitely interested in taking these guys for a literal run, so we’ll have a full review up asap.
