Google is attempting to introduce more content and deals to users with a new Notification category in the settings of the Google Play app on Android.

The category is now appearing in multiple different versions of the Google Play Store app, so rather than an app feature it seems to be a server side change. The category brings in previous notification options for Updates and Auto-Updates, and introduces two new options – notifications for ‘Pre-registration’ and ‘Deals and Promotions’.

There doesn’t seem to be any granular controls for either notifications so you’ll have to rely on Google’s algorithms to notify you of interesting new games, and/or deals and promotions. I love finding new games, and bargains, so we’ll see how this pans out soon enough.

Nice find Dan, I don’t mind the odd $0.20 deals and have purchased a handful of apps. Let’s how well they do in notifying me with deals I might actually be interested in. 🙂
