HMD Global will begin selling the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in Australia and around the world later this month, but already Android fans sites are set on a higher end Nokia, the Nokia 8 which has been leaked soundly with a new high res image.
The leak comes courtesy of Evan Blass (@evleaks) through Venture Beat with the handset render showing Zeiss branding, fruits of a partnership with the German optics manufacturer that was announced earlier this month. The render shows the Nokia 8 – apparently codenamed TA-1012 according to a recent visit through the FCC, in Blue.
The Nokia 8 has not only shown up at the FCC, but at benchmarking site Geekbench as well where it showed impressive specs including a 5.3″ QHD resolution display powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC (MSM8998), 4GB or 6GB of RAM and as you see from the render with a dual-camera setup that will include 13MP sensors behind Carl Zeiss optics.
According to WinFutre.de, the Nokia 8 will be available in Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue and Gold/Copper with a price of €589 (around $866AUD), a premium price that goes with the premium specs rumoured.
HMD Global will launch the rest of the Nokia range at the end of July, HMD will undoubtedly let us know if we’ll see the Nokia 8 here as soon as they officially announce it.
Nice to see HMD/Nokia expand to a more premium phone, even though I’m not really in that market. I had already been considering the 6 for when my Nexus 5X finally stops getting updates as that seemed to be an affordable phone with decent updates and little bloat as well as Australian support.
800+ is interesting though in the context of flagship phones with little bezels. I guess the Pixel 2 will be basically hold to the same price points (1100 for the Pixel 2 and 1300 for the XL).
