The recent Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago saw the chance for Pokémon trainers to unleash the first Legendary Pokémon. Around the world, trainers battled to catch as many Pokémon as possible and now the first Legendary Pokémon are here.

Niantic Labs has announced that Lugia and Articuno are the first Legendary Pokémon arriving in Pokémon Go.

Lugia is a Psychic/Flying Legendary Pokémon, while Articuno is one of the three winged mirage Legendary Pokémon. Articuno is of course the mascot for Team Mystic (Blue) in Pokémon Go, the team which caught the most amount of Pokémon during the unlock period. The other two mascots are Zapdos (Yellow/Team Instinct) and Moltres (Red/Team Valor), which Niantic says will be arriving soon.

Legendary Pokémon, can be used to battle other Pokémon in gyms, but unfortunately won’t be able to be left at gyms to defend them.

As well as seeing these new Legendary Pokémon, trainers will also get some bonuses for the next day or so. The following rewards will last until Monday, July 24, at 5:00 P.M. PDT (Tuesday, 25 July 2017 at 10am AEST):

  • Double Stardust
  • Double Candy
  • Double XP
  • Increased Pokémon encounters
  • Reduced hatching distance
  • Reduced buddy distance

The Legendary Pokémon should be available now, but due to the high level you’ll need a posse to take them down and capture them. So, grab some friends and get out there today and see what you can find.
