OnePlus have had a big following in Australia since they first announced the OnePlus One. Unfortunately the only way to get one here was via mail forwarders or grey market importers. Now that is all set to change as OnePlus have announced their intention to test the Australian market in the coming weeks.
Carl Pei has announced via their forums that they are:
bringing the OnePlus 5 to Australia through a soft launch program. The goal will be to test our product and supply chain, and we’ll be opening up a limited trial run for sales.
They are then following up with face-to-face meet-ups for fans in Melbourne and Sydney where we will have a chance to discuss how the soft launch went and hear our suggestions on how the process could be improved. Now i can consider the Oneplus as a possible phone to buy.
Finally.
I don’t mind buying via the grey market. But I refuse to buy a phone having to go through an invites system. Complete load of w**k. The market for mobile phones is huge, especially these days, so restricting the Australian market then they all do so at their own peril. So it looks like they finally got the message. Too late for me though, will take me a while longer yet to forgive them for their previous transgressions.
Being the buyer I will not put up with BS.
