Sony had a big night last night launching a new Google Assistant enabled speaker as well as new TVs and of course Xperia phones. The bad news is, the phones will not be coming to Australia.

Sony Mobile Australia has confirmed to Ausdroid that the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact and Xperia XA1 Plus will not be ranged in Australia. For fans of the Xperia XZ1 though, a quick trip across the ditch to New Zealand will let you purchase one when it launches there in the coming months.

Sony has a strong range of phones in Australia already thanks to the (IMHO) outstanding Xperia XZ Premium, as well as Xperia XA1 Ultra. There remains little reason to refresh the range at this time, but come February/March next year Mobile World Congress should bring some new models.

If you want to check out the details on the new Google Assistant powered Sony speaker you can read Scott’s write up here, or see the details of the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact or Xperia XA1 Plus you can see our write-up here.

oh well, at least i have a good excuse to go grey.

gotta say, this seems kinda weird since we didn’t get the xzs either. maybe australians just don’t buy sony phones.

I got my XZ on eBay, but it’s Taiwan version and the system update is always so slow….

I’m planning to get the XZ1 Compact to replace my Z3 Compact. Guess I’ll have to get it from overseas. Most likely from the same shop where I got my Z3 Compact from. History repeats itself. LOL
