Horticulture Innovation Australia has today announced a new Augmented Reality app designed to evaluate and improve your Plant Life Balance.

The app, called, you guessed it, Plant Life Balance lets you use take a picture of your living area and have it evaluated for how healthy it is for you. The evaluation is based on research from collated studies on plants from RMIT University and the University of Melbourne. Both organisations are part of the Clean Air and Urban Landscapes Hub, a consortium funded under the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Programme to look at the sustainability and liveability of urban environments.

The app lets you take a photo of your living area from which you select the number and size of plants in the area and a rating is given. Using Augmented Reality you can then drop additional plants into the space to improve your rating. The app contains a selection of 90 plants in all sizes and types, including Bird of Paradise and Night Blooming Cactus, as well as adding in shelves and hangers for those plants.

It’s actually a lot of fun to use, though I think my wife (the one with the green thumb) is going to get a lot more out of this than I am. Once you style your space with a good Plant/Life rating, you can then send your list of plants to your local nursery, a boon for small businesses.

If you want to give this a go head over to Google Play (or the iOS app store) to install it and see for yourself.
