U11+

Alongside the Android One packing HTC U11 Life, HTC has this evening unveiled a more premium handset in the U11+, a larger version of the already stunning HTC U11 which Jason fell in love with earlier this year.

The phone is the first in the HTC line to offer an 18:9 aspect ratio 6″ SuperLCD 2880×1440 HDR10 display that takes up most of the front surface of the phone. As rumoured, the phone comes in three colours: Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver and the one we all want to see – Translucent Black. Internally the U11+ comes with a Snapdragon 835 processor and comes in two configurations: 4GB RAM/64GB storage or 6GB RAM/128GB storage depending on which market it will be launched in.

The U11+ features a 12MP UltraPixel 3 packing sensor behind an f/1.7 aperture that should allow for amazing low-light photography. HTC has included full-sensor phase detection autofocus on the U11+ and Acoustic Focus for recording focused audio in videos. The U11+ has an 8MP camera on the front which has an 85-degree field of view.

The phone comes with a 3,930mAh battery (much larger than the 3,000mAh battery on the U11), is covered by IP68 water and dust resistance and will run Android Oreo (8.0) with HTC Sense atop.

On the audio front it will be no surprise that the U11+ comes sans headphone jack, but it does include HTC USonic earphones with Active Noise Cancellation. On the phone itself you’ll find HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers.

HTC has of course included the Edge Sense squeezable sides on the U11 Plus, a feature that’s been wowing U11 owners since it arrived and now Pixel 2 owners as well. Edge Sense allows you to assign squeezes to actions like launching an app, or performing a function – like calling Amazon Alexa which is on-board on the phone, though only in markets where Alexa has launched.

As for availability it’s unclear if this will arrive in Australia. HTC has announced the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model of the U11 Plus will be available to purchase for £699 from November 20th in the UK, as well as in Europe for €799. We’ll be checking in with HTC Australia tomorrow to find out more about the availability in Australia.

Looks great, now just need a good launch date and price.

Shame that the translucent variant is not available for purchase.
