In an unusual move, it appears that Chinese brand ZTE has stopped making it’s flagship Axon 7 handset, despite not having announced a successor.

Announced about this time last year, the Axon 7 received mostly favourable reviews including from us in Duncan’s January review.

ZTE’s Axon 7 has been out of stock for a little while now, and it seems the reason is because it isn’t being built anymore. A Redditor recently spoke with ZTE support regarding the phone being out of stock and got an interesting answer:

I see that you are inquiring on if the Axon 7 will be restocked. I will be more than happy to provide you with additional information. As of now, The Axon 7 Ion Gold and Quartz Gray will not be available for sale going forward. It is currently end of life, which means it could become available in the future, but no longer being manufactured at the moment.

ZTE has demonstrated it can make great premium-feel handsets at a very competitive price, and we’re keen to see what they’ve got coming up. With CES 2018 around the corner, and Mobile World Congress not too far behind it, one suspects a new announcement can’t be too far away.

In the meantime, if you still want to grab an Axon 7, you can — they’re still available from Officeworks for $355 in Ion Gold and Quartz Grey. This is a great phone at this price, and one well worth your looking at.
