Huawei were one of the first phone manufacturers to bring a dual rear camera to their phones with their Leica partnership lenses. This has resulted in a camera that has matured to become one of the best shooters in the category. Today a leak has suggested that Huawei are looking to incorporate a triple rear camera into their P-series phone next year.

The world’s best leaker, Evan Blass, has done it again: this time with the release of a series of ads from one of the company’s ad agencies.

The ads reveal quite a few details regarding the possible camera in the P11 (assuming they continue in the same naming scheme as previous years). The triple rear cameras feature at least one 40MP (or is it 2 x 20MP or a 3X combination thereof?) with 5 times hybrid zoom as well as all new sensors and optics giving the ability to capture twice as much light as previously giving much better night shots.

The front-facing selfie camera is apparently an astonishingly 24MP (yes, you will need the beauty mode with that because every single blemish will be shown).

With respect to software there will also be the AI auto scene detection as seen in the Mate 10 with its Kirin 970 chipset. Whether it will be the same chip in the P11 is unknown of course but the presence of an AI chip on the CPU is effectively confirmed with this ad.

It is interesting to see Huawei heading down the path of the third rear camera considering the best camera in class at the moment is a single lens system (Google Pixel 2) but in collaboration with Leica we are sure they can deliver a great imaging experience as they attempt to not take great pictures, but make great pictures.
