If there’s one thing Google’s good at it’s offering multiple versions of a similar thing, just look at messaging or payments. We’ve got Google Wallet and Android Pay as well as the recently announced Pay with Google. Today Google has announced that they are amalgamating all of these services into the single Google Pay (or G Pay) brand.

Google Pay will be the single payment service from Google which will include mobile tap payments, online payments and in-app payments. Starting today – and rolling out over the coming weeks – you’ll slowly see the G Pay branding start to replace/ pop up across the payment spectrum. Just how long it takes for things like the Android Pay app to be rebranded is anyone’s guess, it could be 12 hours or 12 weeks.

For developers, Google has updated its payment solutions site and you can find out how to begin to integrating Google Pay into your services, or updating them if you’re using one of the existing platforms.

As for Android Pay, I think it’s time to pour one out and celebrate it’s brief but explosive life. Cheers!
