HTC is making the most of its 2017 U11 brand, and with the recently announced mid-range U11 life and U11+, there’s one more coming next week, the HTC U11 EYEs (yes, that capitalisation matters).

In a tweet, Evan Blass reveals the codenamed Harmony device as shown above. Like the U11 line, it features a curved rear glass panel in three colours: red, black, and a blue-ish silver. It will also include the feature that HTC made popular (and which also featured in the Pixel 2 series) — Edge Sense — to trigger programmable actions by squeezing the phone.

Design-wise, the U11 EYEs looks more similar to the HTC U11+ rather than the original U11, with a different rear line-up – fingerprint scanner above the HTC logo, and below the camera. This allows the top and bottom bezels to be thinner, with a 6-inch 2160 x 1080 Super LCD3 display with rounded corners.

Why EYEs? Well, it follows HTC’s past branding with this name, with the U11 EYEs bringing dual front-cameras for extra selfie capabilities. Other rumored specs include an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor from Qualcomm with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage expandable via microSD card. Its large 3,930mAh battery charges via USB-C with IP67 dust and water protection.

The downside for this mid-ranger is the rumoured inclusion of Android Nougat, instead of Oreo, and we’ll likely see a reveal next week on January 15. According to Blass, Chinese pricing will be around ¥3,299.00 which is a shade under $AU650.

He told the client that their home would be part of a HERO program — that stands for Home Energy Renovation Opportunity. It’s a private company like Ygrene, approved by local governments to set up repayment of loans through the homeowner’s property taxes. The money can be used for anything from air-conditioning to windows to doors — it’s jut not a government entity. But you’d never know it from his pitch.
