Google is celebrating Australians today and highlighting some great games developed Down Under on the Play Store. They have chosen six of their favourite games based on their design, humour and how much fun they are. If you missed it, you can check out their list of favourite Aussie apps, too.

Charming Runes

Charming Runes is based within the brick-breaking genre where you dig through the caverns using various implements and various characters before the bricks close in on you. There are also twists within the game including jellies that absorb your digging implement, blocks that rotate and more. The further you get in the game the more characters you can unlock and gather more collectables along the way.

Charming runs is a fun addictive game that is Australian made. If you like this genre of games, or even if you don’t head over to the Play Store and check it out.

Sleepy Pants

Sleepy Pants is realistic walking simulator where you have the usual obstacles you need to avoid to reach your goal. The obstacles in this game include reckless drivers, explosives, zebra crossings and footpath cracks (no one wants to break their backs do they?). Along the way you collect coins that can be used to buy clothing for your walker.

This game is great fun made by an Aussie developer. For some mindless fun that doesn’t stress the brain too much head on over and check it out.

Data Wing

Data Wing is a racing game combined with story mode. The retro CRT-style design you tackle obstacle courses inside a computer on the orders of an AI named “Mother”. After attacks occur “Mother” becomes irrational and her actions must be overcome.

There are two-touch controls in true arcade style and a story that goes for over two hours with over 40 levels. Data Wing is the creation of Dan Vogt who has been in the video game industry for 15 years. If this sounds like your type of game go over to Google Play and check it out.

Framed 2

Framed 2 is a fun noir puzzle style game where you re-arrange panels of the story/comic book to change the outcome of the story. It is a fun and creative game and rearranging the panels can be incredibly frustrating but ultimately leave you with a feeling of accomlishment when you finish the game.

While not free we are talking about supporting local developers so for less than half the price of a Grill’d burger you can support them and have some fun along the way.

Crossy Road

Except for the very young reading this we all remember the hours of fun we had as kids playing Frogger down at the arcade or fish and chip shop. Crossy Road is a cross between Frogger and Minecraft 16-bit design and includes many Australianisms as obstacles — wombats, kookaburras, trams.

You can choose the character you cross the road with and there are over 150 characters to collect along the game. It has over 120 million users worldwide and is free to play with some in-app purchases.

Another game that is plain old fun without too much drain on the brain. Go and check it out.
