In a bid to broaden adoption of Android devices at Enterprise level, Google has introduced a new service called: Android Enterprise Recommended.
The service, according to Google ‘makes it simple for businesses to confidently select, deploy and manage Android devices and services that meet elevated enterprise requirements validated by Google’. Recommendations include devices, as well as carriers and service delivery companies.
The Android Enterprise Recommended service has a base level of specifications and service requirements for devices before it’s recommended. Services include the ability to offer Zero-touch enrollment to allow for faster deployment and run Android 7.0 (Nougat) and above. Devices also have to offer regular security and feature updates.
On the hardware side, devices must include a 64-bit CPU running at 1.4GHz or above, 2GB RAM, 32GB of storage with 8+ hours of active battery life and a 2MP front-facing and 10MP rear camera.
Google has listed a selection of devices from their own range including the Pixel/Pixel 2, as well as partners including Motorola, Sony, Blackberry, Huawei, LG and Nokia. Google has also listed ruggedised and Field Devices from CAT, Bluebird, Bullitt, Honeywell, Kyocera, Panasonic, Samsung and Zebra.
Google will be updating their list of services, carriers and devices as time progresses so it will be interesting to see which are included.
