Motorola’s Moto Mods line for the Moto Z line of phones has so far brought out a range of useful, sometimes whacky, but above all interesting mods for the phones, but a new leak shows they’ve got something different in mind for their next release: A VR Headset.

The headset, called the ‘Virtual Viewer’, was shared by Evan Blass and from the looks of it the Mod appears to be simply the backing plate for a VR Headset. Though Evan hasn’t shared details on how it works, he’s shared two pictures (at slightly different angles) of the Mod on Twitter:

The speculation is that the Mod could be a Motorola version of the Daydream View headset, though there’s no sign of a hand controller that goes hand-in-hand with Daydream headsets. It could also simply be a more high-quality version of the Cardboard VR headsets we’ve seen for the last few years.

The Mod does have a rear cut out where the camera sensor on the Moto Z is, giving rise to speculation that the headset could cross over from a pure VR device into an Augmented Reality (AR) headset as well.

Motorola hasn’t obviously announced anything as yet, so we’ll probably have to wait for a little longer before we see what’s going on with this one.
