After launching in Australia quietly as an iSelect exclusive earlier this year, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor is now available to purchase from JB HiFi online or instore now for $479.

The Nest Cam IQ is a ‘smart’ camera, able to recognise faces and then send an alert to the Nest app on your phone to let you know who is walking around your home. The smart ability requires a ‘Nest Aware’ subscription which starts at $7/month ($120 per year), with 5-day video history, or there are more expensive options depending on how long you want to store your video.

The Nest Cam IQ includes a 3-mic array to let you hear what’s going on and an 8MP 4K sensor with HDR support and 12x digital zoom and 940 nm infrared LEDs for Night vision. The Nest Cam IQ doesn’t record in 4k though, instead implementing something they call ‘Supersight’ which effectively allows it to zoom in on sections of the video at 1080p resolution.

The Nest Cam IQ is still cheaper from Kogan though who are selling it for $329 + Delivery, though it’s a ‘direct import’ but still has a local warranty and Australian compatible adapters.

I wish they would bring the Nest Hello or thermostat down under, unlikely due voltage differences and the like, but these are the standout products to me.

$479. + Subscription for a camera isn’t compelling to me.
