Huawei have hit a home run with the P20 Pro according to all who have used it and they are now looking to follow that up later this year with another success with the Mate 20.

Each series Huawei produce they produce a Pro, a standard and a Lite version with the design languages very similar between the three. The Lite has never made it here with that moniker and is instead usually branded a Nova series phone. Overnight we got a look at some press renders of the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 Lite (Nova 5i??) as well as some of the specs.

WinFuture and Roland Quandt have once again obtained renders of an unreleased phone, this time the Huawei Mate 20 Lite. They also were given some of the specs.

As you can see in the renders above the notch is present and with Huawei giving you a chance to hide it I have no qualms at all with that because along with the notch comes an extremely decent 6.3 inch display with a minimum of 2340×1080 pixel resolution. There is still a smallish bezel at the bottom, but not enough for a fingerprint sensor which is thus located on the rear of the device.

Joining the fingerprint sensor on the rear will be a dual 20MP/2MP camera setup complimented by the dual 24MP/2MP front camera setup. The phone will be packed with up to 6GB of RAM (more than the rumoured Pixel 3 XL) and 64GB of internal storage but it is unclear whether it will support microSD card memory expansion. The processor will be the new mid-range 12nm Kirin 710 and it will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The Mate 20 Lite will be only 7.6 mm thin (thick?) but will house a 3650mAh battery and weigh 172 grams. The design will once again incorporate glass front and rear with a metal frame. Launching in the next few weeks it is expected to cost around 399 Euros – we expect it to arrive here in Australia later this year as a Nova device, around the same time the Mate 20 does.

Huawei are making some great mid range phones and are great off-siders to their impressive flagships. For those in the market for a mid-range phone would you consider a Huawei Nova device? How about this one?

Fix EMUI already. You still can’t respond to notifications off the lock screen which is a pain in the arse.

If it runs 8 0 oreo it is a fake leak, since the latest emui is based off 8.1 oreo. Also, unless they break convention the mate series usually launches with latest Android major release of the year which would be pie.

is it me or that back of the mate 20 lite looks like galaxy phone

Adam

it is not just you, square off the fingerprint reader and voila

Looks great, besides the hideous notch. The flash also looks a bit out of place whereas the layout was nice and symmetrical on the Mate 10 with the sensor thing complimenting the flash
