File sizes are growing in size all the time, and the ability to move them from place to place quickly is a requirement these days. Samsung has today announced their latest portable storage option, an NVMebased portable solid state drive (SSD) – the Samsung Portable SSD X5.
The drive uses Thunderbolt 3-compatible USB port for connectivity, so the downside is you need a Mac or Windows PC which supports this port otherwise the drive simply doesn’t work. The upside if you have a Thunderbolt 3 port is you can expect transfer speeds that are extreme with Samsung spruiking read speeds up to 2,800 MB/s and write speeds up to 2,300 MB/s – that means you could transfer a 20GB 4K video file in approximately 12 seconds.
The drive even looks fast, with a sleek grey body with red highlight on the end around the USB port, which reaches down underneath the drive.

The drive is available in three sizes – 500GB, 1TB and 2TB and are coming to Australia in September. The 500GB will set you back $629, while the 1TB drive will cost $1,099 or you can grab a 2TB drive for $2,199.
