For serious sports enthusiasts the Polar brand is synonymous with working out and recording the metrics of your workout accurately. The next devices in the Polar range include the Vantage M and Vantage V sports watches.

The Polar Vantage M is the entry-level model in the new Vantage range, priced at $399, while the Vantage V is the premium model designed for serious athletes with a price tag to match at $699.90. There’s a number of differences in spec between the two watches, but it’s the similarities in the Vantage range that are the key selling points.

The Vantage V and Vantage M include the usual specs including GPS, as well as a new take on Hear-Rate sensors with the Polar Precision Prime sensor fusion technology to more accurately record your stats.

The Vantage M and Vantage V include all the tools you need to take your training to the next level, with a focus on training and recovery with the new Training Load Pro feature which Polar says gives you a comprehensive view on how your training sessions strain your body in different way with a focus on cardio load, muscle load, perceived load using the heart-rate sensors and more. The Vantage V also offers insights into recovery with their Recovery Pro feature.

The Vantage V offers some additional benefits for athletes with a barometer and a touch-screen included, as well as the ability to record running power from the wrist. What is Running power? It’s a new feature that measures the external load of your running, using GPS, Barometer and Heart Rate Sensor to gauge the intensity of your running. The Vantage M also supports running power, but requires external sensors.

The Vantage M offers up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge, while the Vantage V offers an extended life of up to 40 hours using the GPS, heart-rate monitor and more. For a quick comparison here’s a good look
