After announcing their sub-$200 Agora 9 in October, Kogan has today announced their latest Agora branded phone, the Agora XS, which is the first Kogan Agora branded device to include a notch in the display.

Priced at $299, the Agora XS is aimed at the mid-range market utilising an octa-core MediaTek processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage with a dual-SIM card tray that can either be 4G+4G or allow you to insert a microSD card for expanded storage.

Kogan has joined the growing trend of using a notch in their 5.7″ display, with the notch housing a 16MP front camera sensor and ‘Facial Recognition’ technology – though whether this is simply face unlock or something more advanced isn’t mentioned. If the face unlock isn’t for you, a side mounted fingerprint sensor that appears to be built-in to the power button is also included.

Full Specs:

  • 5.7″ 19:9 IPS display – 720×1520 HD+ resolution
  • Octa-Core Processor upto 2.0 Ghz (MediaTek MT6763)

Sergiy Bobrovnychyy, Kogan.com Director of Exclusive Brands is pretty happy with the phone, saying

We know Australians are searching for what seems to be a unicorn in the smartphone industry — a mobile device with the latest technology at a price that won’t break the bank. It’s incredibly exciting to be able to bring our customers the Agora XS, which effectively solves this problem.

Having options is also important, which is why we’re proud to offer a range of smartphones in our Agora line. All of these devices provide affordable options with quality technology that Australians want and need.

As usual we’re trying to track down a commitment from Kogan on software updates – both feature and security updates. Kogan hasn’t got the best reputation in this arena so we’re after a lot more from them on this front.

Kogan is offering the phone for pre-sale from today for $299 + Delivery, with orders set to begin shipping out on December 28th. We’ll let you know if we get any further information about updates.

is it unlocked?

Les

You get a notch, but you don’t get software updates. Hmmm.

Jack Bauer

Software updates aren’t as amazing as everyone makes out. Android 8.1 is already extremely feature rich

LukeH

Very similar to the Ulefone X? Assume performance would be similar.
