Google’s detailed what’s coming in Android’s February security patches today, with the updates rolling out to Pixel phones immediately alongside a small platform update.

Pixel phones move up to Android 9.0 (PQ2A.190205.001/2/3, depending on model), while the venerable Pixel C stays with Android 8.1 (OPM8.190205.001) but still gets some patching love. If you can’t wait for that OTA update, head over to Google’s Factory Images page.

As for what’s in the updates? Google published details of the changes in a security bulletin. There’s also a dedicated page for Pixel updatesย that reveals no Pixel-specific changes, but does note delivery of a quarterly platform update along with the patch (Droid-Life notes the riveting change of location of “About Phone” in the settings menu).

The February patches will now be added to the AOSP code base, and it’s on manufacturers to roll out the changes to their own handsets. If you’re running a non-Google Android phone, you should check to find out your phone manufacturer’s (or carrier’s) policy for distributing security updates.
