Sony have made great headphones for a long time with their current WH-1000XM3 widely regarded as the best noise-cancelling headphones around. Today they have announced a new set of headphones to their EXTRA BASS series, the WH-XB700.

The headphones, as with others in the EXTRA BASS range, offer a “bass sound experience” while at the same time improving the clarity of the vocals. The headphones may not seem much different to many headphones out there but they have the usual NFC one-touch pairing mode that Sony speakers and headphones usually have and a 30 hour battery life — yes thirty, three zero, hours.

The headphones with the large battery also have quick charge functionality with 10 minutes of charging granting up to 90 minutes of playing time. Sony have gotten onboard the USB-C bandwagon and offer USB-C charging which no doubt contributes to the fast charging. The headphones’ sound can be customised with the Sony Headphones Connect app — CLEAR BASS, Surround (VPT) and Sound Position Control can be adjusted using the app.

The best news of all is the Google Assistant built in which is controlled by the custom button on the left ear housing — oh and if Alexa is your poison the button can be mapped to call her too. The Assistant can be used to control the usual Assistant commands on your smartphone as well as the headphones themselves.

If you are on the lookout for a new set of Google Assistant-powered headphones you should add these to the list because being a product from Sony you can bet the sound will be premium. The Sony WH-XB700 will be available in Australia in black and blue from April 2019 for SRP $249.95.
