Optus has announced a couple of new products that may appeal to customers traveling overseas with a prepaid phone plan.

A $5 international talk option which includes up to 300 minutes of international voice calls to 50 destinations is available with a 28 day expiry.

10GB of data is available for $20, and can be used in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, but it lasts just 5 days.

The new addons are available to customers on the Prepaid Epic Data plan or the Prepaid Epic Value plan. They can be purchased online or through the My Optus app. Optus’ Prepaid Epic Data plan includes unlimited international calls already, but to a smaller set of countries than the addon offers.

Optus Head of Strategic Projects, Vidur Rattan said

“We’re excited to launch these new Add-Ons, which are perfect for travellers wanting to share their experiences with family and friends back at home. They’re also great for those wanting to make international calls from Australia.

We’ve heard from our customers who have informed us that they just want to relax when travelling overseas and use their phone worry free, just like when they’re at home.”

The offer is a bit confusing especially if it is reported under the banner of int roaming. From reading Optus site and details, the $5 International Talk addon is not roaming but for use in Australia calling out to international destinations (which is redundant given it is normally unlimited under 40+ recharge prepaid). Could you please clarify?
