If you own an Android device that’s not a Pixel or Android One device, one of the big questions is “will my phone get software updates, and if so, how often and when?”

Samsung has a hit and miss record over the years, but more recently has managed to keep the monthly updates flowing – at least to the company’s latest devices.

Case in point, we’ve started seeing the May 2019 security update start rolling out to Galaxy S10 devices, and it’s still May. For the S10+ that security update also includes improvements to the stability of the camera.

We’ve installed the update and haven’t noticed any specific improvements to the camera but often these non-specific updates fade into obscurity. Do you have a Galaxy device? What security patch do you have?

Galaxy S8 with April security patch. Been very impressed with Samsung’s effort so far. Didn’t think the S8 would get so much love for this long.

Also have the Galaxy S8 (w/ Telstra) and still on April. IIRC the phones get 3 years of updates: 2 OS updates (Oreo then Pie in our case), then 1 more year of security patches. The phone is still going strong and the One UI update that came with Pie breathed new life into it so I didn’t see a need to upgrade. May just hold out for the S11.
