Huawei’s long awaited EMUI 9.1 update is set to be released to current devices in mid-July. The update brings new features and updates to the operating system.

Still based on Android Pie, the update features a new version of GPU Turbo that improves mobile gaming by speeding up touch response times and optimising performance, an “Easy PC Transfer” mode that allows the device to push photos, videos and documents to a connected computer with one press, and a revamped system settings menu that simplifies device customisation. The latest Android security patches are also included, of course.

The Master AI camera mode is also getting a boost, with improved scene recognition capability, allowing advanced automatic settings in more situations. Another more niche function will be enabled too – if you have a new Audi, you can unlock and start it with your phone’s NFC sensor.

Huawei’s press release confirms the Mate 10 and 20 series phones, as well as the Nova 3i and 3e are all receiving the update in July, while the P30 Lite will get it in August. Huawei shared a much longer list of devices getting the update in other regions a few months ago, so it’s possible other devices will receive it as well.

The Mate 9 would of got 9.0, but this is for 9.1 I am waiting for 9.1 on my Mate 10, so July seems like the go.

I have a Mate 9 and it was updated a few days ago. My only gripe is the update has changed the look of the Google icons such as GMail etc to a pale blue colour and they all look the same.

I can’t work out how to get the Oreo looking Google icons back.
