Google is currently pushing out the OTA updates for its Pixel phones, as expected on the first Monday of a month. This time along with the security patches there are also a few functional patches for Pixel devices.

According to the Pixel Update Bulletin for this month there are no specific Pixel-related security patches but there are some functional patches. The functional patches include improved “OK Google” and music detection, bootloader bugs fixed and an improvement in the Titan M Module’s performance.

The more general security fixes that arrive with this months update include fixes for vulnerabilities in the framework, the library, the media framework and the system. The most severe of these is a “critical security vulnerability” in media framework which may allow a remote attacker to execute code within the usual sandboxed processes. There are no reports of this being exploited though.

The OTA is beginning to roll out now as we speak but for those who want to install it manually you can grab the factory image or the OTA files from their usual places.

Yeah I got mine this morning. So far so good. It’s the reason I went for the Pixel 3 that and the great camera.
I got burnt a few time with other droid phones over the years manufacturers that abandon a flagship phone within about 12-18 months of the phones release. I’m looking at you HTC. Never again 😁
