OEMs are always striving to be different, sometimes this results in fantastic innovations and sometimes we get notches in our displays. Depending on where you sit on easy access or screen smudging, your feelings on in-display fingerprint sensors may vary. All of that aside Huawei has shown off proof of concept of an in-display fingerprint sensors in a mid-priced LCD display.

So far in-display sensors have been limited to the more costly OLED panels leaving the feature securely in the domain of the flagship devices, but with the device Huawei showed off last week at their developers conference that may be a thing of the past. The new LCD panel made by another Chinese parts maker is now available and could well find it’s way into a mass production phone by the end of this year.

With the competition in the mid-tier heating up it’s not surprising to see part makers and OEMs looking at pushing premium features down to the affordable devices as users start to shun the pricing that has become standard in the flagship market over recent times.
