For some people, the announcement that Disney+ was coming to Australia was a good thing: it confirmed that we would be able to get all of the premium Disney-owned content on demand in Australia without having to go to 4 different streaming services to get it piece meal. Now we have all of the Australian launch details.

Disney+ will launch internationally on 12 November 2019, and it will then launch in Australia and New Zealand just one week later on the 19 November 2019.

It will cost $8.99 AUD per month or $89.99 AUD per year. While it may take several years for Disney to pull all of their content back from other streaming services, you can expect to get content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, the Star Wars universe and National Geographic.

You’ll be able to Watch Disney+ on a wide variety of devices and platforms including:

  • Google (Android phones, Android TV devices, Google Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices)
  • Microsoft (Xbox One)
  • Sony / Sony Interactive Entertainment (all Android based Sony TVs and PlayStation®4)
  • Roku (Roku® streaming players and Roku TV™ models)
  • Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, and fully integrated with the Apple TV app customers can subscribe to Disney+ via in-app purchase)

With Disney supporting Chromecast and Android TV out of the box, could this signify that Google’s lounge room/ lean-back experiences are finally getting consideration as first party platfrom?

Interested in seeing whether Disney will also offer the package deal (Disney+/ESPN/Hulu) outside USA.

What will happen to Stan? I wonder if Disney+ will have 4k content.

Be interesting to see if we’ll have the same content as the US version with Stan/Netflix down here having a lot of their content already

I suspect we’ll see either some of it moving, or the exclusivity expiring. It’s not like Disney+ wasn’t planned well in advance and they wouldn’t have known about it when inking the current deals.
