Huawei made their name with mid-range phones and although they seem to have overtaken everyone in the premium range they are still releasing some great mid-range phones.

Today they have announced a new phone which sits somewhere between the entry-level price and the mid-range but looks and has features decidedly mid-range. The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a phone that shows off some great design choices by Huawei which actually make you wonder why they don’t do this for their premium smartphones.

The Y9 Prime 2019 is a great looking phone with a notch-less design incorporated with a big 6.59-inch 1080P display. Available in a Midnight Black and a Sapphire Blue the phone houses a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor alongside a triple rear camera setup.

Of course with a notchless design they need a font-facing camera solution and Huawei have gone with a motorised pop-up 16MP selfie camera which emerges in under a second but also has intelligent drop detection and will retract when it senses the phone dropping. It is rated to withstand 100,000 activations and retractions and can withstand 15kg of weight on it.

We’re excited to launch The Y9 Prime which I believe is one of the best value devices in market for under $400. The phone is jam-packed with great features including a 16MP front facing pop-up camera, triple rear camera system, long battery life and a 6.59-inch, notch-free HD display. Aussies of all ages will love this phone. Larking Huang, MD Huawei Australia

The phone is powered by a Kirin 710F processor alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. A 4,000mAh battery should also keep it chugging along for over a day.

The triple rear camera system incorporates a 16 MP main lens, an 8 MP Ultra-Wide-Angle lens and a 2 MP dedicated bokeh lens. The camera software included AI features such as scene detection and exposure setting based on this and Super Night Mode.

EMUI is onboard on top of Android 9.0 and given their improvement over the years it is sure to be a decent experience, especially for one for just $399 from today at selected retailers including JB Hi-Fi.

At just $399 this great looking phone looks set to make its mark with some decent specs in the entry-level market and is definitely worth considering if that is where you are looking. For more information check out Huaweis Y9 Prime 2019 website.

Doesn’t that two-tone finish on the back look familiar!
