It wasn’t that long ago that Chinese mobile brands didn’t have a huge presence in Australia, and now besides Huawei and Oppo (which have been here a while), there’s now Xiaomi, Vivo and now realme is getting involved.

Founded almost 18 months ago, the company has developed a user base of 10 million users in 18 markets, and will bring four of its devices to Australia later this month.

realme will sell online, through partner retailers including JB HiFi, Good Guys, Bing Lee and others. They will also be available on established e-commerce sites including Amazon, eBay, Kogan, Catch and Mobileciti, in addition to the company’s own website realme.com/au.

Precisely which phones will be launched in Australia hasn’t been shared yet, but with realme holding a launch party on 17 October, we’ll find out pretty soon.

realme’s Australian managing director Andy Yang, said:

“realme is a young and fearless brand and our aim is to enable our fans to experience premium functionality, technology and style at a reasonable price.

“Young people don’t need to spend a fortune to access high quality phones with larger battery life and storage, rapid charging and superior camera technology. Our customers are young and brave and we’re excited to share our innovations with Australian consumers.”

realme points out that it is powered by OPPO, with the smartphone giant supporting the young brand with a shared production line, supply chain and its ColorOS system. However, as a young brand with a ‘Dare to Leap’ spirit, realme has its own research and development facilities, independent design team and unique approach to communicating with its customers and fans.

Considering the popularity of realme’s phones throughout Asia and the middle-east, the company’s phones are sure to be well received in Australia too where – historically, at least – the budget end of the smartphone market hasn’t been all that exciting.

With phones priced between $200 and $500, there should be a good phone for everyone in realme’s lineup.
