OnePlus have always waiting until the MWC hype and the phones released then have died down before releasing their flagship for the first half of the year. Now though, they are no longer minnows in the smartphone world and are a big player in many markets and as such are looking to release the phone earlier in the year to compete with the likes of Samsung, LG and Motorola.

According to a leak from Ishan Agarwal, who has a history of accurate leaks, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are now going to be launching in late March / early April. Not only that but there will be a new green colour for both phones — something we have not seen from OnePlus before.

The earlier release date is a full month earlier than the usual May launch date that we have seen in recent years. This will put their releases closer to six months apart, which makes a lot of sense if they are going to continue to release updates to their devices every six months.

With the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro expect to be powerhouse devices it is an exciting time around these first few months of the year. They are expected to house 120Hz hole punch AMOLED displays, Snapdragon 865 CPUs and at least one variant to have a quad rear camera setup.

Hopefully this is the year they decide to bring it to Australia and although we have not heard anything from them so far we remain positive but feel it is still unlikely.
