Most of the specs for the upcoming Google Pixel 4a have already been leaked and rumoured — just as they are for every single phone released these days. 9to5Google have confirmed all of the specs with their sources and have listed those that they believe will be arriving in just a few weeks time.

According to their sources the Pixel 4a will once again be plastic-bodied with a single 5.81-inch display — ie. there is no Pixel 4a XL coming this year. The display will be a 2340 x 1080 resolution AMOLED display. Gone are bezels and notches, replaced with a punch hold in the display for the selfie camera.

The Pixel 4a will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 and will house Google’s Titan M security chip but will not house the Pixel Neural Core as found in the higher end Pixel smartphones. Accompanying the SD730 will be 6GB of RAM and a 3080mAh. As for the storage there has been rumoured to be a 64GB version but that could not be confirmed by their source, instead confirming the presence of a 128GB version.

As usual the battery will be charged with an 18W USB-C PD charger and there will not be any wireless charging included. As with many mid-range devices there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and the source could only confirm the presence of two colours — Just Black and a new “Barely Blue”.

Barely Blue?

Google pulled some amazing wizardry in the Pixel 3a and are set to do it again with the Pixel 4a — all through software genius. The rear camera is just a single 12.2MP lens with the front-facing camera an 8MP lens with an 84 degree FOV.

We expect the software to be the usual Pixelly goodness, offering smoothness and speed unseen in that combination outside of Pixel phones (with maybe a couple of exceptions). The new Google Assistant will be there of course along with Google’s Pixel-flavoured software.

The Pixel 4a was slated to be released at Google I/O, originally scheduled for 12 May 2020, so we expect it to be released around the same time. Keep an eye out for it though as Google have been known to surprise everyone and just drop things whenever they want to, whatever the date or time.
