Hey, what’s this song, ‘do a ditty, ditty dum ditty do’? No, don’t know it? That’s ok, Google might. At yesterdays On Search 2020 event, Google unveiled one of their more whimsical features, the ability to identify a song just by humming party of the melody.

To search for that annoying earworm just say “Ok Google, what’s this song”, followed by 10 – 15 seconds of the song. This does mean that you need to know that much of the song for it to work, I know that for me I often only know a fraction of the song I’m trying to remember.

While the technology behind the new feature is impressive the overall utility may be a bit limited. However Google releasing features like this will be of benefit to some, and likely continues to push the development of future AI-powered features.
