TPG Telecom has launched a new sub-brand felix which claims to be Australia’s first telco brand powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

felix has been certified as a Carbon Neutral service by the Australian Government’s Climate Active initiative. They will plant one tree per month per customer.

felix will offer only one plan for $35/month featuring:

  • Endless data at speeds up to 5Mbps in Australia on the Vodafone 4G/3G network
  • Endless calls and text in Australia – Standard calls, SMS and MMS to mobiles and landlines. Calls to 13 & 18 numbers, and voicemail
  • Renews every month -Automatically renews for $35 every month. Track this in the felix app
  • No lock-in contract – You can pause your plan whenever you want.
  • Optional add-ons include:
    • Endless International Calls and Text for $5/month – Stay in touch with loved ones overseas with standard calls and text from Australia to over 40 selected countries. Countries may vary
    • International Roaming for $20 to use over 365 days – 4GB of data at speeds of up to 5Mbps, 100 standard mins and 100 standard SMS to keep connected when holidaying in over 40 selected countries. Countries may vary

TPG Telecom Chief Executive Officer Iñaki Berroeta said the model is the way of the future.

“Seamless, sustainable and simple is what customers are telling us they want from their telco plan. felix is the first step in the merged company’s sustainability focus, and we’re taking this step to reduce the environmental impact from mobile phone use. Environmental sustainability is important to us, and it’s important to our customers, shareholders and the
community.”

Mr Berroeta said felix is an app-based product which puts customers in control and once customers receive their SIM, it will be an entirely digital experience.

This would seem to rule out felix supporting esim’s which would be more environmentally friendly than sending out a courier to each new customer just to give them a tiny plastic SIM.

felix will be part of the TPG Telecom Group house of brands which includes Vodafone, TPG and iiNet, and will operate on the company’s mobile network.
