Although we get a lot of devices here in Australia, and aside from a brief dalliance a few years ago we have not had OnePlus venture onto our shores. that does not stop us wanting them to though and each year we are hopeful that the following year will be the one to change all that. For this reason we continue to cover the OnePlus phones wherever we can.

Over the weekend pictures of the OnePlus 9 5G have been obtained by PhoneArena along with some screenshots showing off some of the specs of the device. The OnePlus 9 5G will be OnePlus’ slightly less-premium device with the Pro version having all the specs.

Shown off in a silver colour the OnePlus 9 5G shows a new camera module with the two main cameras large and surrounded by a ring. The third smaller camera lens sits next to the vertical writing “Ultrashot”, likely to be OnePlus’ branding for an upcoming camera feature of theirs.

As for the front it is extremely similar to the models this year with OnePlus persisting with the selfie cutout hole in the top left of the near bezel-less 1080P 6.55-inch 120Hz display. The frame seems to be made of aluminium with the same ports etc located in the same places as this years’ models. The alert slider which is unique to OnePlus in the Android world is still present thank goodness.

According to the screenshots of the specs received by Phonearena inside there will be a Snapdragon 888 (codenamed Lahaina) and at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage — we expect there will be a 12GB/256GB model as well. The phone will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery which will no doubt support Warp Charge 65 (65W fast charging).

We will of course continue to keep reaching out to OnePlus regarding their plans for us here in Australia. We can only hope that they see Australia as a viable option to help improve sales in what we all hope will be a post-pandemic world.
