Optus has today announced that it has completed an upgrade at the Optus Stadium located in Burswood, an inner city suburb of Perth. The company has stated fans won’t just get the thrill of watching live sport and concerts, but also will also be able to access the benefits of Optus 5G in selected areas of the stadium.
The rollout of Optus 5G services has been completed within the Stadium, Stadium pitch, corporate suites and general seating areas. Optus have also stated that the Optus 5G network availability will also be included into the popular Optus Stadium Tour package, which will immersive and interactive experience for tour patrons that will enhance the stadium experience.
The Optus Stadium Tour package utilises Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra devices which gives visitors a day to night view of Perth’s Optus Stadium, including the Stadium’s famous light show, using augmented reality run over 5G, with Optus stating that it plans to launch additional content over the coming months.
Kelly Bayer Rosmarin, CEO Of Optus has stated that:
“5G will be transformative in the home, at work and when we are at play, like cheering on your team or singing along to your favourite artist. We know people have been eager to get back into Optus Stadium with a full crowd and with Optus 5G now enabled throughout the stadium, fans will be able to connect at the speed of their excitement,” and that “This next generation technology has the potential to revolutionise the way sport and live entertainment is enjoyed,”
Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna has also stated that:
“We believe in a Fans First philosophy at Optus Stadium and delivering 5G at the venue means the game day or concert night experience will be even better for fans,”
Optus customers visiting Optus Stadium wanting to connect to the Optus 5G network, will need to have a compatible handset that will benefit from the newly switched on 5G technology with faster download speeds.
The upgrade to 5G within the stadium was completed by Optus’ network and infrastructure partner, Nokia, with Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia stating that:
“We are proud to support Optus in their pioneering efforts to deliver compelling 5G indoor and outdoor coverage at Optus Stadium. While access to public events has been impacted in the current environment, Optus’ 5G network will ensure extraordinary 5G experiences for all in readiness for spectators filling stadiums to capacity again.”
The work to provide 5G network connectivity was also completed in partnership with the Western Australian Government and Venues Lives and also come as Optus currently has more than 1000 5G sites switched on with more than 100 of these in Western Australia.
That is nice. When will they start increasing their 5G footprint for general consumers? Where I live, I can get Telstra 5G but not Optus. And all Optus say is what this space. Well I have been watching for almost 6 months with no movement at all.
